Our internship program is a robust, hands-on discovery opportunity for students to learn and experience a career in advertising. For 10 weeks during the summer, interns will work in our office (either Kansas City or Wichita) alongside their mentor 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) collaborating and developing their skills. Possible areas of opportunity are:
Account Management: This is an opportunity to learn about the client facing side of the advertising business. You’ll work alongside account management team members to deliver great work for our clients and develop great client relationships. Some of the things you might do are; develop client presentations, attend client facing meetings, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on research, finding insights and creating briefs. If you’re a marketing or advertising major and have effective time management and organization skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, are endlessly curious and have a self-starting mindset, this account management internship might be for you.
Brand Strategy: Are you a strategic communications major interested in consumer research and the philosophy or “why” behind the why consumers do what they do? If you’re an analytical thinker who likes to dive deep to uncover nuggets of insights and “ah ha’s”, then you should apply for our brand strategy internship. Brand strategy interns may conduct research, participate in internal brainstorming sessions, help write creative briefs and collaborate with members of the strategy team to help deliver strategic insights to internal colleagues and clients. You’ll need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, have an intense curiosity, be an engaging storyteller and definitely not shy away from a challenge.
Copywriting: Do you love words? Flip through your portfolio. Is it full of compelling copy and critical thinking? If yes, our copywriting internship might be for you. You’ll work on all levels of business alongside our copywriters–from writing the perfect Instagram captions to developing big campaign ideas.
Design/Art Direction: Are you a graphic design major with a stellar portfolio showing a strong sense of design and typography? Know your way around the Adobe Creative Suite? Then our design/art director internship might be for you. From day one, you’ll be working with a client team under the direction of senior art directors to fulfill a variety of client needs and internal agency projects.
Media Planning and Buying: If you’re the go-to for how to do a pivot table or some other Excel formula, have a genuine interest in all things media (print, billboards, digital, broadcast), are a self-starter with a curious mind and know your way around PowerPoint, you may find our media planning and buying internship is just what you’re looking for. Some of things you might do are; learn to use research software to identify target audiences and media trends, assist in preparing client presentations, source media costs and create media orders, work in social media platforms, track and analyze media results, attend vendor presentations.
Public Relations: The public relations intern will work alongside the public relations team to provide support of overall public relations objectives and goals for a variety of clients as well as content and marketing writing projects on behalf of the firm. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure proper online messaging and relevancy as it aligns with the communication strategy. If you love writing, are a stickler for grammar and spelling, have great communication skills, are detail oriented and can multitask and meet deadlines, consider a public relations internship.
Social Media and Content Strategy: Are you interested in social media and digital marketing? Are you someone who likes trying new things across social channels and keeping up with the newest digital communication trends? Then the social media and content strategy internship might be right for you. As a social media and content strategy intern, you will join the content strategy team to develop and execute content marketing strategies and tactics that drive engagement on behalf of a variety of clients. Some of your responsibilities might include: researching, monitoring and reporting on social (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn), collaborating with internal teams to brainstorm marketing tactics, educating Signal Theory employees on content strategy trends, creating and managing content calendars, assisting in the development of communications and content strategies and presenting strategies to clients.
Project Management: Looking to enhance your organization skills while also mastering the art of multitasking? Love working with others but may not want to be directly client-facing? Are you the planner of your friends' activities and other events? Project management just might be for you. Our Project Management Internship offers a unique opportunity for ambitious individuals to gain hands-on experience in the marketing and advertising industry. As an intern, you will work closely with experienced project managers and gain valuable insights into the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects within our organization.
