WVU Sports Writer/Correspondent

Job Overview:
The John Fredericks Media Network (JFMN) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Writer/Correspondent to provide comprehensive coverage of West Virginia University (WVU) Athletics. This role involves attending WVU games, delivering in-depth written reports, and providing engaging on-air updates for our flagship radio stations in West Virginia.

Responsibilities:

  • Write detailed, insightful articles covering WVU Athletics, including pre-game analyses, post-game recaps, and feature stories.
  • Attending and reporting on home games and other relevant WVU events.
  • Provide live or recorded on-air updates and commentary for JFMN’s flagship radio stations in West Virginia.
  • Collaborate with the JFMN editorial and broadcasting teams to ensure consistent, high-quality content.
  • Stay informed about WVU sports and maintain relationships with players, coaches, and other media professionals.
  • Ensure accuracy, fairness, and professionalism in all reporting.
  • Covering coaches’ pressers 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in sports writing.
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for WVU Athletics and sports in general.
  • Must be based in West Virginia with the ability to attend most home games in person.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver engaging on-air updates.
  • Proficient in journalistic writing, with a focus on sports coverage.
  • Familiarity with radio broadcasting or prior on-air experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to cover games and events.
