Special Projects Intern (Paid)

Idaho Head Start Association Special Projects Paid Internship

  • ~ 5 Hours per week
  • Hybrid (flexible schedule with some in-office work in the downtown Boise office)
  • Internship may end in May 2025 or continue through the summer, depending on performance and intern availability

Organization Description

Idaho Head Start Association (IHSA) supports Head Start programs through Advocacy, Partnerships, Collaboration, Recognition, and Professional Development to achieve high quality outcomes for Idaho’s children, families and communities. It is a membership organization, providing member benefits to its members, the thirteen Head Start programs in Idaho.

IHSA is a statewide organization composed of representatives from Head Start, Early Head Start, Migrant & Seasonal Head Start, and Tribal Head Start. The association was incorporated as nonprofit organization in 1995.

Head Start has been a federally funded program since 1965, providing no-cost early childhood education, health screening, workforce development, and other wrap-around services to children and parents aged 0-5. 

Internship Description and Responsibilities 

This position includes a $2,000 stipend to be paid upon completion of the primary project. The Special Projects Intern will work under the supervision of the Executive Director. Duties may be flexible dependent on intern’s interests and/or skill set with the exception of the primary and secondary special projects.

  1. Primary Project: IHSA will be sponsoring a statewide wage study in 2025 as a member benefit. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Intern will lead the execution of the wage study project, collecting data and compiling into a visually appealing report.
  2. Secondary Project: Collaborate with the Executive Director in planning and executing the annual statewide conference. This involves logistics management, volunteer management, day-of coordination, and other related duties
  3. Other special projects as assigned and agreed upon based on Intern’s interests 

Requirements and experience (Preferred but not required)

  • Preference given to Head Start Alumni
  • Desire to explore nonprofit sector work
  • Ability to excel at remote work 
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Effective communication skills; responds to text and email quickly
  • Junior in college or higher
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Passion for helping Idaho youth and parents succeed
  • Reliable internet connection for remote work; office will be available as well
