Bioinformatics Internship
USDA-APHIS in Beltsville, Maryland is seeking outstanding candidates for 6-8 month internship position. This position is an integral part of the Plant Germplasm Quarantine Program (PGQP), which has the mission of protecting US agriculture and the natural environment from the introduction of foreign plant pathogens (virus, viroids, etc). This opportunity is designed to give broad-based exposure tothe day-to-date activities of the Plant Germplasm Quarantine program. The interns will participate in the bioinformatics analysis of the Quarantine program, including metagenomic analysis, RNA-seq analysis, amplicon-seq analysis, pipeline development and other activities.

The intern will have a flexible schedule, working between 10-40 hours a week (weekdays), depending on coursework load or other obligations and be paid $15.00-18.00 per hour.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Current college junior, senior, graduate student, recent graduates
- Education focus in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or biology with computer programing skills
- Algorithms or similar computer courses are preferred
- Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0
Required Competencies
- Attention to detail and highly organized
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Computer programing skills (prefer python, others are ok)
- Working remotely with Linux system
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently or with a team
- Must be a U.S. citizen
