We're seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Communications Hardware Specialist within the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The ideal candidate is experienced operating in a highly dynamic environment and can balance the needs of multiple stakeholder groups. Candidate should have the ability to work with executives, create innovative solutions, and think strategically, while maintaining attention to detail.
This role will support and maintain in-house audio-visual equipment and non-print media assets. This includes operating, maintaining, distributing, installing, configuring, repairing, and upgrading various electronic products while ensuring their optimal performance. This person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training and assistance where required. This is an on-site position.
This is a GRANT FUNDED position and is subject to available grant funds.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup and facilitation of large-scale meetings across Zoom, Webex, and Teams. Ensure all technical aspects of the meetings run smoothly, including audio and video quality, connection stability, and user access.
- Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future telecom equipment and corporate technology needs.
- Performs scheduled inventory audits, preventive maintenance, software, and firmware updates on AV equipment.
- Supports staff with setups for users in event spaces and conference rooms.
- Sets up video conferencing on both permanent and mobile systems.
- Regularly inspect and maintain AV equipment to ensure it is in optimal working condition. Update software and hardware as needed to meet the latest technological standards and improve meeting experiences.
- Quickly identify and resolve technical issues before or during meetings. Provide technical support and guidance to users experiencing difficulties with AV equipment or meeting platforms.
- Work closely with the IT department and external vendors to ensure AV systems are integrated seamlessly with the organization’s IT infrastructure. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to coordinate meeting setups and provide updates on equipment status.
- Document quick reference guides and standard operating procedures for communications hardware and software
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of communications and audio/video equipment contracts and supervise vendor installations and upgrades.
- Advise on the purchase of new communications and audio/video equipment; assist with installation, testing, and deployment of communications and audio/video equipment
- Set up, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot teleconferencing equipment, multimedia devices, televisions, monitors, projectors, recording equipment, speaker sets, digital cameras/camcorders, and other presentation equipment.
- Provide front line support for AV software/hardware problems. Perform onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex AV hardware problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including offsite repair as needed.
- Document instances of AV equipment failure, repair, installation, and removal.
- Build and maintain a spare parts inventory for all AV equipment.
- Handle incoming scheduling requests for AV equipment and setup.
- Transport AV equipment throughout facility as needed.
- Produce, dub, edit, and copy all AV media, as required.
Additional Job Requirements:
- This is an on-site position.
- Travel is required to 3 of our locations – 200 Piedmont, 1680 Phoenix Blvd, and 1549 Clairmont Rd.
- Background check will be conducted.
- Must arrive on time based on designated work schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED AND four (4) years of experience in the installation and/or repair of computers, communications, and/or technical equipment in the area of assignment
OR
One (1) year of experience at the lower level Communications Hardware Spec 3 (ITT022) OR position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
• Must be able to work a flexible on-site schedule based on customers' needs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the purpose and function of a wide variety of audio-visual equipment.
• Experience providing audio-visual support in diverse technical environments.
• Knowledge of basic audio-visual and IT troubleshooting.
• At least two years working experience with facilitating, scheduling and setting up meetings using platforms such as Webex, MS Teams or Zoom.
• Familiarity with PA and projection system setups and installations.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely utilize ladders up to 8 feet in height.
• A bachelor's or associate degree in a technology-related field.
• AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) or CTS-D/I is preferred.
