Helping the members of the 22nd District in the best way possible is our proud duty, and we are delighted to know that others are willing to aid our constituents and office members. We welcome and accept all bright, motivated, and committed students who share an excitement to experience the process of assisting staff and constituents in a comprehensive internship program.
Background:
Congresswoman Lois Frankel’s District office has an immediate need to hire an intern in the office in a part-time or full-time capacity. Once the application period closes, the office will contact the best qualified candidates to begin our interview process.
Job Expectations:
Interns serve important roles for the office by attending briefings, hearings, conducting research, and drafting correspondence and memoranda. In addition, interns provide a welcoming environment of the Member office to constituents, visitors, and other VIPs. They also handle incoming calls and capture input from constituents on policy matters for the Member office’s consideration.
Salary Level/Range:
· Candidates are eligible to receive a stipend every month. Rate will depend on your availability.
Job Duties:
• Provides a welcoming environment and positive first impression of the Member office to constituents, visitors, and other VIPs
• Handles incoming calls with poise, professionalism, and promptness
• Assists Member and key staff (e.g., Staff Assistant, Scheduler, Chief of Staff) with logistical and administrative duties
• Receives and logs input from constituents on policy matters for the Member office’s consideration and response
• Attends briefings and hearings, collects Member signatures, delivers time sensitive Member to Member correspondence, conducts research, and drafts correspondence and memoranda
• Ensures constituent casework is distributed to appropriate district staff in an efficient and effective manner
• Assists with planning and execution of Member’s public outreach at local events
• Accompanies district staff to public forums, meetings, and events as a representative to the Member
Requirements:
• Professional and positive demeanor while interacting with visitors, staff members, and stakeholders in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment
• Time management skills including the ability to prioritize, and track work status
• Attention to detail
• Willingness to learn
• Effective communication skills for verbal and written correspondence
Preferences:
• Pursuing or completed bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, or related field
• Prior constituent service or customer relationship management experience
• A demonstrated interest in public service
