Pointers Connect Internship - Marketing Intern

Interns must meet eligibility requirements for the Pointers Connect Internship (PCI) program to be hired and receive pay. Requirements include:

  • currently enrolled at UWSP
  • Junior or Senior Status (60+ credits earned)
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Are either a first-generation, non-traditional, or Pell-eligible student

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Member Services & Marketing Director, perform tasks related to marketing and fundraising for various departments. This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to perform work with limited supervision and high levels of accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  1. Full operational understanding of Microsoft Office products and willingness to learn other specialized programs.
  2. Ability to work independently after being given directions.
  3. Must be confident in oral communication and possess proficient writing skills.
  4. Understand and adhere to confidentiality requirements of the department.
  5. Time management and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in active environment.
  6. Solid knowledge and proficiency of Social Media platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist or perform marketing and fundraising tasks related to:

  1. Communication: Directly participate in social media interaction, email communications, direct mail, website content, and other ways to promote YMCA activities and events. Includes: creating news releases, writing and monitoring social media, design of posters, fliers, bulletin boards, etc.
  2. Special Events: Assist in planning, coordinating and implementing successful special events including recognition event, annual campaign kickoff, golf outing and Duathlon.
  3. Grant Writing: Research and review viable grant opportunities. Manage all elements needed for submitting a successful grant application including researching and writing text, gathering of support materials and coordinating input from other staff.
  4. Donor Management: Assist in the solicitation of corporate sponsorship and follow-ups, maintain donor database information and write donor communication materials.
  5. Endowment Development: Assist in the development and execution of a marketing plan for Heritage Club, including writing the Heritage Club brochure and newsletter. Additional duties include writing press releases and social media.
  6. Assist as needed, with other tasks as assigned by Member Services & Marketing Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to effectively communicate and actively interact with employees. Must be able to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds. Must be able to operate office equipment.
