Duties
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for each duty station is listed below. These employment periods can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA) - Denali Park, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is May - September. Anticipated Entrance on Duty: May 2025.
Lake Clark National Park and Preserve (LACL) - Port Alsworth, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is May - October. Anticipated Entrance on Duty: May 2025.
Duties for the position with Denali National Park and Preserve include but are not limited to the following:
Assists with the collection and compilation of data necessary for implementing the adaptive management component of the 2012 Denali Park Road Vehicle Management Plan (VMP). Duties include:
Collect data using hand-held Juno GPS units while traveling in a concessioner-operated buses or a government vehicle transiting all or part of the 92-mile Denali Park Road.
Collect data on wildlife sightings using binoculars and a range finder.
Collect data on VMP indicators (number and type of vehicles at a wildlife stop and rest stops, amount of time hikers have been waiting to be picked up by a bus).
Collect vehicle traffic data from monitoring locations.
Install and maintain traffic counters, download and process data using specialized software.
Download and process data using MS Excel, MS Access, and ArcMap.
Perform quality control/quality assurance and follow established protocols.
Maintain monitoring equipment.
Follow assigned monitoring schedule.
Communicate changes in schedule to supervisor or crew lead in a timely manner in writing and orally.
Interface with concessioner staff and park visitors.
Conduct Dall sheep surveys.
Travel by foot.
Use binoculars, range finder, and spotting scope.
Navigate to survey locations using map, compass, and GPS.
Work hours will vary and will include early-mornings and late-evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays. Sheep surveys will involve hiking in wilderness. Close encounters with grizzly bears, moose, and wolves are possible at work and living locations. The incumbent may be required to drive a government vehicle. A uniform will not be required while traveling on buses but will be required when traveling in a government vehicle. Safety training will include living and working in grizzly bear, moose, and wolf habitat and traveling in remote wilderness locations. Incumbent must follow safety protocols and regulations.

Salary
$19.15 - $24.89 per hour
Plus, an additional 3.21% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), which is subject to annual review and adjustment.
