Community Engagement Specialist I
Catawba County Public Health is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic communication professional who is passionate about helping improve and protect the health of our community.
The Community Engagement Specialist will develop, implement and evaluate Public health Communication, marketing and community engagement strategies. This position will also help coordinate and support other Health Promotion initiatives and special projects, and to support the development and use of community health data in a meaningful way by assisting with the development of the Community Health Assessment and the Community Health Improvement Plan utilizing data platforms such as Clear Impact Scorecard.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To develop, implement and evaluate Public health Communication, marketing and community engagement strategies
- Support other activities associated with other Health Promotion specific agreement addenda as needed
- Serve as the backup Community Engagement Manager as needed
- Provide support to special projects associated with Health Promotion activities as assigned by supervisor
- Strengthen community partnerships and relationships, specifically with historically marginalized populations with the focus on priority census tracts, especially related to health priority areas as specified in the Catawba County Community Health.
- Initiative Coordination and Support: Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of coalition-centered community health improvement initiatives in collaboration with Health Promotion staff and community partners, including but not limited to assessing community partner needs, providing training and technical assistance, and participating in routine evaluation efforts.
- Coalition coordination: With Health Promotion staff and Community partners, coordinate the development and support of initiative focus groups, partnership-based site teams and committee, and leadership teams associated with the work of coalition. This includes consistent communication and updates to staff and volunteer leadership, as well as participation in and coordination of shared leadership development opportunities for the coalition
- Support Community Health Data Management and Analysis
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field and 1 year of professional level experience in public relations, communications, or marketing: OR
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field and 2 years of professional level experience in public relations, communications, or marketing
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid NC driver's license with a safe driving record
- Community engagement and marketing techniques
- Branding strategies
- Communication program evaluation
- Crisis communication implementation
- Graphic design experience a plus
- Think strategically and creatively about ways to achieve short and long term organizational goals.
- Clearly and effectively communicate in written, verbal and graphic forms to a variety of audiences.
- Organize, manage, and execute both small and large scale projects.
- Liaison with community partners, general public, media, staff, etc.
- Respond effectively and accurately in crisis situations under extreme deadline pressure.
- Use independent judgment to make decisions.
- This is considered light work; lifting up to 20 pounds.
PREFERENCES:
- Experience in a public health, healthcare or community setting preferable
