Duties and Responsibilities
The post is located at the Office of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Beyond Lab, and under the daily guidance of the Professional Officers in the Section, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
1. Research and Policy Analysis
- Assist in conducting research on evolving sustainable development concepts and trends to inform the Lab’s innovative approaches to long-term sustainability.
- Assist in synthesizing research insights to help develop briefing materials, reports, talking points, and correspondence related to key intergovernmental processes.
2. Project Management and Social Innovation
- Support the Lab’s project management activities, including assisting in the development and implementation of the Futures Balance.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating events, workshops, and other convening activities to engage stakeholders in key discussions.
3. Technical Prototyping
- Assist in conducting user experience testing with consultation groups and refining of the mock-up based on user feedback, through interactive workshops and online feedback.
4. Communications and Campaign Support
- Assist in drafting and editing content for the Lab’s website and social media channels (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram, X), as well as help create engaging visuals, graphics, and other design elements.
- Support the planning and implementation of online campaigns, including content creation, scheduling, and monitoring impact and reach metrics.
- Assist in the development and dissemination of the Lab’s newsletter, including conducting background research, proposing content ideas, conducting interviews, and writing feature stories.
5. Stakeholder Engagement and Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships
- Participate in meetings with key partners and stakeholders, including governments, the broader UN system, civil society organizations, and private sector representatives.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
Expected duration
6 months; desired start date on Monday 3 February 2025.
