Outdoor Programs Coordinator: City Contract Position
Job Summary:
Responsible for the planning, promotion, development and implementation of high quality outdoor recreational programming and outdoor summer camps. Coordinates, plans, promotes, implements and leads day to day aspects of outdoor recreation programs which include interacting with citizens, volunteers, instructors, concessionaires, City officials, employees and the general public.
Essential Functions:
1. Assists in planning, organizing, and supervising various outdoor recreational/educational programs, outdoor summer camps, activities, special events and other projects associated within the Lake Parks area of specialty, usually with a 6 to 12-month lead time prior to the program or event.
2. Coordinates with City departments, community organizations, volunteers, concessionaires and US. Army Corps of Engineers regarding facility use.
3. Coordinates various programs with other City and department personnel to inform them of activity involvement and anticipated assistance (i.e. Lake Parks Maintenance Division, Facilities Services, and Convention and Visitors Bureau).
4. Develops and implements educational and environmental features and resources to support programs through Grapevine Parks and Recreation’s programming.
5. Provides various program and activity reports for supervisor; makes recommendations for addition of new programs.
6. Drives City vehicles as needed; may be required to transport program materials and people and for various errands.
7. Expected to work or be available evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
• Ability to engage the community, volunteers, and program partners.
• Ability to hike uneven, often wild/undeveloped property in diverse regional weather conditions.
• Must have functional knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
• Must be able to work outdoors regularly, includes exposure to seasonal weather and temperatures common to our region.
• Must be able to work independently and responsively to emergent requirements at various parks.
• Preference toward individuals with strong observation skills, communication skills and creativity.
• Position will occasionally be required to use machinery such as a utility cart or skid steer to complete projects.
Education, Experience and Other Requirements:
Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Horticulture Environmental Science, Environmental Education or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 2).
