BLatinX Internship Program
The BLatinX Internship Program (BLX) is an initiative to provide an opportunity to get visibility into what financial planning is all about. We provide an opportunity for Black and Latinx students to get their foot in the door to the financial planning profession. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about personal finance and gain real-world experience from financial planning firms across the country.
Requirements to Participate:
- You must identify as Black or Latinx
- You must be eligible to work in the US
- If you are a student, you need to have at least completed your Sophomore year in college (entering your Junior or Senior year)
- You must pass a background check. This is a serious profession with high ethical requirements and the need to maintain client confidentiality is paramount.
- You must submit a resume
- You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. We require a copy of your unofficial transcript
Firms are required to pay their interns $20/hour. The firms participating in the program will select the intern(s), they would like to hire. Each firm will have its own way of evaluating candidates, including interviews (virtually or in person) and/or assessments. Typically firms will look for the following traits in candidates: curiosity, intellect, strong work ethic, a strong sense of initiative, organizational skills, analytical skills, and excellent communication skills. Interns will receive a minimum of 20 hours per week to gain valuable experience throughout their internship.
Go to https://blxinternship.org/apply to submit your application for why you are a good fit for this program. Please keep in mind that you apply to the BLatinX Internship Program (BLX) as a whole, rather than to a specific firm that is participating. The application period is open from October 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024.
You should expect to know whether you have been successful by the end of February, but likely before. If you do not secure an internship, please do not be discouraged. The program is highly competitive and you can apply again next year.
You do not need experience to apply. However, a demonstration of required skill sets such as work ethic, curiosity, and initiative is extremely important. This can be shown through previous internships, society involvement, financial planning coursework, etc. Don't be modest in bragging about yourself!
The most important thing we are looking for is potential. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about personal financial planning. We will ask questions like: You can choose any career or job that is out there, why have you chosen financial planning?
