Natural Resource Specialist/Fish Biologist

Duties

 

As a Fish Biologist/Natural Resource Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Promote the conservation of marine and aquatic resources and protected species and their habitat by analyzing fishery policies, issues, and regulation, ensuring adherence to Federal statutes such as the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other applicable environmental laws.
  • Use a general understanding of regulatory laws, fish, marine mammal and other protected species biology, and aquatic habitat requirements to perform various technical consultations and issue permits with federal agencies.
  • Collaborate with external Federal, State, and local agencies and tribes in the management and recovery of identified NOAA trust species, and develop to promote protected species conservation programs.
  • Follow all applicable federal guidelines with regard to electronic records and consultation tracking systems, and regularly consult with NOAA general counsel, experts in the field, and NMFS science centers to produce documents and processes that are scientifically sound and legally defensible.
