Manufacturing Engineering Co-op

Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Arthrex Manufacturing, Inc site in Ave Maria, FL is responsible for the manufacturing of a variety of Arthrex products and includes Manufacturing, Quality & Product Engineers. The individual(s) that are chosen for this position will engage with engineers of different product portfolios to create and optimize manufacturing processes, perform verification and validation activities, develop and implement process fixturing & tooling, and analyze results from data collection systems to better understand the performance of the processes. Selected students will engage with process engineering teams responsible for Milling, Turning, Finishing, Cleaning, Grinding, Specialty Processing and more. Preferably, the ideal candidate will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another related field. Computer aided modeling experience and effective oral & written technical communication skills are strongly preferred.

 

This Co-op will run from January 2025 – June 2025. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Ave Maria, FL facility.

 

Main Objective: 

Co-op will be involved in medical device manufacturing process design/implementation/validation as well as process improvement.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The student will be mentored on the process of determining validation requirements and testing to be performed to adequately evaluate process performance.
  • The student will apply principles that he or she has learned in school to hands-on situations with documentation of results.
  • The student will be responsible for research, testing & analysis and will receive progressive responsibility.
  • Will identify and recommend process improvements for product manufacturing and evaluation.
  • Student will attend regular departmental meetings, training sessions, symposiums, etc as required
  • Participate in project team for assigned projects; analyze improvements and new processes and develops requirements and specifications with team. 
  • Works within specifications provided to meet project goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Effectively works with peers, project team members, and other departments in new process development and equipment validations, including fixture design and implementation.
  • Utilize Synergy Lean and Six Sigma to process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Progress towards a college degree in Engineering required. Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.  (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.)
  • Previous manufacturing or mechanical experience preferred.
  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements /Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing and possess the ability to work through technical issues.

 

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills: 

Knowledge of mechanical testing equipment, PC, Solidworks 3D modeling software a plus.
