Nature of Work

The primary function of the Education Programs Manager is to oversee program development and to coordinate staffing for informal education programs.  Programs under management include Zoo Camp, Fun Factory, Night tours and overnights.

Essential Duties:

Develop, write, and implement informal education programs on various conservation, biological, and ecological subjects.

Assists Director of Learning Experiences and Volunteer Services in new program development, including collaborations with external partners.

Directs and oversees assigned program activities, budgets, and grant requirements.

Hire and train part-time education program staff.

Develop, write, and implement informal education programs

Implement and execute education programs for audiences of all ages at both on-site and off-site locations.

Conduct evaluate and collect data regarding zoo programs as needed.

Assist with grant proposals, donor meetings, and reports for grant- based education programs.

Prepare and submit monthly activities to the Director of Education, including participation numbers and budget status.

Direct staff and volunteer trainings, weekly staff planning meetings, managing camper information and groupings, maintaining fiscal records and working within a budget, maintaining camp resources and supplies, and interacting with parents, campers, staff and administration as needed.

Other duties as assigned

Required Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or related field. One to three years of experience working with kids and with informal education programs, preferably at a zoo, aquarium, museum, or similar institution. Proficiency in MS Office Applications, including MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint.
