Paramedics and Paramedic Students (Full-time)

Catawba County Emergency Medical Services, an innovative and progressive agency providing a full array of the highest quality pre-hospital care, is recruiting full-time Paramedics and Paramedic students. We are seeking exceedingly motivated professionals dedicated to serving citizens with outstanding customer service and excellent patient care. With a call volume of over 34,500 per year, the latest advanced equipment, and an exceptional training program, we offer a welcoming environment where you can administer pre-hospital medical care to sick and injured patients and continue to grow in your profession. 

 

SALARY INFORMATION:  

  • Paramedics working 12-hour shifts can earn approximately $59,405.93 and up yearly, which includes scheduled overtime. (Base salary is $50,827.49 and up.)
  • Paramedic students working at an EMT level on 12-hour shifts can earn approximately $44,333.94 yearly, which includes scheduled overtime. (Base salary is $37,931.70)
  • Night shift differential pay provided.  
  • Paramedics with advanced Emergency Services related degrees and certifications such as National Registry receive additional pay.
  • Paramedics who serve as Field Training Officers receive extra duty pay.  

 

SHIFT INFORMATION:

  • Shifts available:  12-hour shifts (day and night). 
  • For Paramedic students attending school a flexible 4/5 schedule is available to assist with work-life balance. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administering pre-hospital medical care and psychological support to sick and injured patients
  • Operating emergency vehicles 
  • Attending continuing education programs to maintain re-certification hours
  • Completing electronic patient care reports and other documentation 
  • Cleaning and restocking ambulances and bases
  • Other assigned duties

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Graduation from high school and completion of a Paramedic degree or certification program; and 
  • Certification by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services as a Paramedic

OR

  • Graduation from high school and completion of an EMT certification program PLUS currently enrolled in a Paramedic program; and
  • Certification by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services as an EMT.  

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Excellent patient care skills with thorough knowledge of paramedic-level emergency medical protocols and the ability to properly use the appropriate equipment and supplies
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and adherence to policies/procedures
  • Dedication to outstanding customer service and community focus  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with a variety of individuals, including citizens, co-workers, managers, hospital staff, and other agencies 
  • Exceptional initiative and motivation   
  • Knowledge of the geographical layout of Catawba County 
  • Working conditions are inside/outside, and candidates must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull at least 200 pounds with a partner regularly

 

PREFERENCES:   

  • Applicants with successful completion of BTLS, ITLS, ACLS, or PALS courses
  • Applicants who are bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Hmong are encouraged to apply. Extra duty pay for bilingual skills is available upon successful test results
