Engineering Intern / Co-Op

The City of Watertown's Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking talented students interested in seeing the engineering field from a public sector perspective. Working under the supervision of the City Engineer or their designee, our Engineering Intern/Co-op Student will gain valuable experience supporting the Engineering Division in the performance of routine engineering related to environmental, water, sewer, stormwater, and roadway projects. 

Duties may include performing daily inspections of public works construction projects, assisting with cost estimating and budget analysis, contract preparation, drafting, and GIS data entry. Additional responsibilities may include field and on-site related activities. 

Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursing a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Geology, Construction Management). 

Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) software and Computer Aided-Design (CAD) is desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as well as good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
