Job Summary

Under limited supervision, performs basic installation and removal of mobile communications, computers, cameras and other equipment in County owned and contracted agency's vehicles. Repairs non-technical problems with vehicle radios, computers, cameras, scanners, radar detectors, antennas, sirens and other equipment. Travels to other County departments, contracted agencies and suppliers to pick up or deliver equipment and/or parts. Maintains records of installation and removal of equipment from vehicles. Works in confined spaces and lifts medium to heavy weights on a regular basis. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  At the time of application, applicants must:

1. Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test; AND

2. a. Have at least six (6) months of full time work experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of communications, computers, cameras and other equipment in vehicles; OR

b. Have completed the equivalent of 15 semester credit hours in basic electronics coursework from an accredited college, university or technical institution.

3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.

4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
