Communications Intern

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Born This Way Foundation is searching for a communications intern to assist in the Foundation’s external communications efforts. This role includes supporting press outreach, event coordination, and helping to create narrative content to be used across various platforms. This is a role for someone who is passionate about mental health advocacy, and wants to learn about and support communications and public relations!

Please note: All candidates for this internship must be a current student and will be required to sign an agreement stating they are completing the internship for educational benefit.

Born This Way Foundation, co-founded and led by Lady Gaga and her mother, Cynthia Bissett Germanotta, empowers and inspires young people to build a kinder, braver world that supports their mental health and wellbeing. Based on the scientific link between kindness and mental health and built in partnership with young people, the Foundation leverages research, programs, grantmaking, and partnerships to engage young people and connect them with accessible mental health resources. Role + Responsibilities

  • Support Development of Unique Pitches: Assist in the collection, research, and development of unique media pitches to promote Born This Way Foundation initiatives and events.
  • Develop Copy for Press Kits and Campaigns: Support the development of compelling copy for press kits, media briefings, and campaigns.
  • Extract and Use Impactful Quotes: Extract and use impactful quotes from key stakeholders, including young people, organization leaders, and external partners to support internal and external communications. 
  • Document Impact Data and Stories: Document the impact of Born This Way Foundation events and programs by pulling and sharing compelling stories that highlight their significance.
  • Coordinate Events and Prep Materials: Assist in coordinating events and drafting prep materials, including briefs, trackers, and sending calendar invites.

Required Skills

  • Research and Analytical Skills: Strong ability to research, gather, and analyze information to support the development of unique media pitches and communications strategies.
  • Copywriting and Content Creation: Proficiency in creating compelling and persuasive content for press kits, media briefings, public relations campaigns, and various media opportunities.
  • Media Asset Management: Skilled in curating, managing, and organizing media assets from diverse events and initiatives to ensure easy access and use.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to extract and use impactful quotes from key stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail and Organization: High level of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills to maintain databases, contact sheets, and digital files efficiently.
  • Relevant Coursework: Courses in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related fields are highly beneficial.

September – December (flexible dates, with possible 3 month extension pending review)

10-20 hours, with your class schedule in mind

Compensation

$2,500 stipend for 3 months, possible 3-month extension with additional $2,500 stipend for those 3 months pending review
