The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) is proud to offer paid internships and student worker assignments across our divisions with the unique opportunity to roll your sleeves up and work side by side with industry professionals on challenging yet meaningful work: providing safe and reliable water to our valued customers.


 

The Student Internship/Student Worker Program offers students and recent graduates (within one year of the date the degree was awarded) learning opportunities at LVMWD across a wide range of discipline areas. It is intended to provide participants the opportunity to strengthen their leadership, technical, research, communication, networking, and other related job skills. The District offers unique hands-on and in-depth experiences to interns and student workers in the process of providing its services to the community. Where possible, the District will cooperate with the high school, college or university if the school intends to award class credits for student participation in an internship/student worker program. 


 

To apply, please submit your application and transcripts demonstrating that you meet the qualifications below. Candidates that meet the qualifications outlined below will have their application reviewed by the division(s) in which they are interested and that have current openings, and selected candidates will be scheduled to interview. Successful completion of pre-employment background checking and physical exam will be required prior to starting employment. 


Internships and student worker assignments are part-time, temporary, at-will positions limited to no greater than 8 hours per day, 29 hours per week, and 999 hours per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Participation in the Student Internship/Student Worker Program does not guarantee full-time employment. The length of time for an internship/student worker assignment is six months but may be extended by the General Manager as needed up to an additional six months. Working hours are flexible depending upon department needs and the intern/student worker's school schedule.  

 

Internship/student worker assignments may be available in the following areas:

  • Customer Service
  • Engineering, Facilities, & Water Operations
  • Finance
  • Human Resources
  • Public Affairs
  • Resource Conservation

To qualify, candidates must:

  • Intern candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program at a university or college and have at least 30 semester or 45 quarter units completed at the time of appointment; or, an applicant may apply to participate within one year of having earned a degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Student Worker candidates must be at least 16 years of age and obtain the appropriate Work Permit through their high school.
  • Current or completed degree, curriculum, and/or experience must be relevant to LVMWD's business;
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Have the ability to analyze and problem solve;
  • Possess strong technology skills.

Depending on qualifications, pay ranges from:

Student Worker – minimum wage

Bachelor's degree program - $16.50 per hour

Master's degree program - $18.50 per hour

Doctoral degree program - $20.50 per hour
