Development and Events Intern

Development and Events Intern

Climable, Inc. is searching for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Development and Events Intern for the fall of 2024. The ideal candidate is interested in energy, the environment, or sustainability, and is eager to learn about the nonprofit field that Climable operates in, specifically about nonprofit operations, fundraising, and event planning for our projects. We value a candidate’s lived experience and we prefer those with a commitment to public interest issues such as sustainability or environmental justice. Applicants are not required to have energy or environmental experience when applying; we value eagerness to learn about energy and climate topics during the duration of the internship program.

About Us:

Climable is a small woman-run nonprofit with a mission to make climate science and clean energy understandable, actionable, and accessible for everyone. Climable’s end goals are energy democracy (public participation in the energy transition) and climate resilience (improved avenues for anticipating, preparing for, and responding to climate disasters). Our main projects focus on 1) clean community microgrid development projects (solar and storage) in Environmental Justice (EJ) communities, 2) educational programs for students, children, and adults, and 3) stakeholder engagement and community outreach.

Due to the small size of the organization, interns wear many hats and often have exposure to consulting, clients, and the nonprofit business, and you will too. Any candidate interested in joining our organization must be able to collaborate and ask for guidance when needed. Priorities can shift quickly on a day-to-day basis so flexibility is a necessary asset for all Climable staff. This is an incredible opportunity to work in the mission-driven nonprofit space, gain nonprofit business experience, learn about justice and equity, build skills, and make connections.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Attend daily to-dos for Climable business operations including funding research, file organization, fundraising support, data entry, administration, drafting procedures, documenting processes, etc.
  • Assist with event planning and coordination for a variety of fundraisers, field trips, and virtual and in-person events.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts on behalf of clients under the supervisor’s direction. This could include arranging event space, supporting stipend payment support for attendees, corresponding through email, networking, supporting event logistics, and more. Support the planning and execution of our annual fundraiser which includes event planning, coordination with vendors, fundraising outreach, and more.
  • Assist with drafting and editing grant applications, reports, blogs, and other project deliverables.
  • Support Climable’s end-of-year, annual appeal which includes editing appeal letters, coordinating social media appeals, folding letters and stuffing envelopes, mail merging addresses for labels and letters, and setting up the newsletter.
  • Support social media outreach and engagement.
  • Represent Climable at local events.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Communications, Environmental Science/Studies, Education, or any other related field. We are also seeking recent grads (less than one calendar year post-graduation) for this role from an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s program.
  • Strong communicator and reliable team player who will follow through on tasks and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Internship or prior work experience with some (not all) of the following areas: operations, business (nonprofit), logistics, administration, fundraising, social media marketing, community-based work, and/or event planning.
  • Strong writing skills, or the ability to catch errors, typos, and spacing mistakes in written materials to create complete, professional documents and emails.
  • Passion for nonprofit or mission-driven work.
  • Interest in climate change mitigation, stakeholder engagement, community-based work, community resilience, sustainability, or environmental justice.
  • Comfort speaking to and engaging with the public.

We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. We recognize that women and People of Color are less likely to apply to positions unless they meet every requirement. If you are interested in this role and it does not perfectly align with your experience or skills, we still encourage you to apply!
