Corporate Sponsorship Intern - Fall 2024

 

The Corporate Sponsorship Intern at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston will be part of the External Relations team, which is responsible for marketing, PR, communications, fundraising and most importantly building lasting relationships with the Museum’s diverse constituents. The role will fall more specifically within the Marketing and Communications team, which oversees fundraising for corporate sponsorship. We seek an enthusiastic intern to assist with projects that contribute to the corporate sponsorship pipeline and execution of sponsorship benefits. 

 

The intern will report to the Manager of Corporate Sponsorship. They will work closely with the team on research, donor database, and execution of sponsor benefits. Corporate sponsorships come from companies who partner with the Museum in support of exhibitions or programs in exchange for marketing visibility, hospitality benefits, VIP event access, and more.  The intern will also attend prospect meetings with the team, and possibly sponsor meetings as well. 

 

The selected intern will gain donor database management and organizational skills through simultaneously handling multiple projects and tracking specific details for reporting. Additionally, they will learn how to create rapport and network effectively while working with different types of people and working styles, while learning about establishing relationships with working professionals in other industries. The intern will leave with skills and experience applicable to future work in Development, Marketing, and Corporate Relations. 

 

Ideal candidates must commit to work onsite 15 to 20 hours per week (including some hours after 5pm) from Sept 13 through Dec 13, 2024, including attendance at the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course on the following Fridays: Sept 20, Sept 27, Oct 4, Oct 11, Oct 18, Oct 25, Nov 1, Nov 8, Nov 15, Nov 22, Dec 6, and Dec 13

 

The intern will be paid at a rate of $16.80 per hour and will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy. (*The subsidy is subject to taxes.)

Essential Functions:

Research

  • Utilizing resources that will be provided, the intern will research sponsor prospects and share their findings with the team along with a recommendation for approach. The team will provide ideas and feedback for fruitful discourse. 
  • Utilizing research and communication skills, the intern will gather information on what other institutions offer their sponsors in terms of benefits. This research will be done via online, and through virtual meetings and phone calls. This work will be instrumental to the intern’s final project. 

Database, Files, and Resource

  • Utilizing skills learned during training, the intern will update donor records in the MFA database as well as electronic files.
  • The intern will help develop a guide for sponsor logo preferences
  • The intern will develop a hub for photography taken during events and to be utilized in reports and proposals

Events & Meetings

  • The intern will attend prospect meetings with the team
  • The intern will assist in preparing meeting materials, and attend sponsor meetings (if applicable) 
  • The intern will assist with event prep and day-of logistics for private, sponsor, and program events
  • The intern will assist with benefit execution which could include welcoming companies onsite
  • The intern will assist with our grassroots community outreach efforts and tabling  
  • Final Project 
  • Utilizing the skills and experience gained throughout the internship, the intern will develop a presentation detailing sponsorship benefits and visibility at other institutions and include recommendations of new benefits the MFA can offer sponsors. 
  • *Prepare and offer a 3–5-minute final synoptic presentation of the internship as part of the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course

 

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program concurrent with the internship period (class of 2025, 2026, or 2027) 
  • Interest in learning more about the Museum of Fine Arts and contributing to the operations of External Relations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong research and writing skills, especially written correspondence
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Experience with and/or interest in data management 
  • General knowledge of the local business community
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Interest in institutional fundraising and arts administration 
  • Excellent customer service, in writing, person, and by phone
  • Ability to commit to work onsite 15-20 hours per week (within Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm parameters), from Sept 13 through Dec 13, 2024, including attendance at the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Sept 20, Sept 27, Oct 4, Oct 11, Oct 18, Oct 25, Nov 1, Nov 8, Nov 15, Nov 22, Dec 6, and Dec 13  
  • Ability to attend orientation on Fri, Sept 13, 2024, 10am to 3:30pm.
