Job summary:

Under direct supervision and dependent on experience and/or training in media production, creates multimedia stories that inform the Iowa City community about the activities and initiatives of City and nonprofit entities. Assists professional staff with video production including planning, writing, set-up/clean-up, lighting, interviewing, shooting, editing and distribution for cable TV, website and social media. Receives assignments from the Media Production Specialist. Contacts and schedules interviews related to assigned projects. Assists staff with planning and/or conducting interviews. Records interviews using professional video equipment. Captures supplemental visual material (also known as b-roll). Hosts or presents individual stories and programs on-air as assigned. Edits video and audio material into segments for City Channel 4, citychannel4.com and social media. Receives on-the-job training and supervision related to: operation of a variety of video production equipment, including Sony FS-5 video cameras, electronic field production (EFP), video studio production, video editing using Final Cut Pro 10, and video production troubleshooting. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned and all requirements of specific academic programs.

 

Minimum qualifications:

One year of audio/visual experience or current educational study in journalism, media production, or in a related field is desired but not required. Knowledge of basic journalistic practices, interviewing, videography, scripting, editing, audio, and lighting techniques desired. Basic computer skills required. Ability to read and understand written technical materials in order to perform production activities required. Ability to receive directions and/or oral instructions required. Must pass criminal background check.
