Intern, Development

Worldreader is a global edtech organization dedicated to improving literacy and learning outcomes for young children. With a mission to open up endless possibilities to children through reading and captivating activities, we reach families in more than 100 countries with content that encourages family-centered reading experiences. Together, we can inspire a new generation of confident and smart children wherever they may be. 



Overview

We are seeking a Development intern to support the work of the US Development team, with a focus on prospect research, grant writing, and donor stewardship. You will contribute to Worldreader’s efforts to expand our public profile and secure philanthropic funding to support programs and operations. This immersion experience will provide insight on how a global nonprofit attracts and retains donor support.


 

This is an unpaid remote internship.



Scope of Work

The development intern will work closely with the Director of Major Gifts and the US Development Team to execute the following projects and activities:


 

  • Identify potential donors or grant opportunities through research and prospecting to include updating contact data, relationships, associations, and philanthropic interests.
  • Assist in researching, writing, and editing grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, or government agencies.
  • Support the cultivation and stewardship of donors by assisting with communication efforts, including handwritten thank-you notes.
  • Gather and analyze data related to fundraising activities, donor engagement, and program impact.
  • Generate reports and presentations to communicate key findings and insights to the development team and stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute donor thank-you calls and share engagement opportunities including volunteering and event invitations.
  • Direct mail/electronic messaging for stewardship of Worldreader donors.
  • Attend and participate in weekly Development team meetings.



Timeframe

Up to 3 months and 10-15 hours per week. 


Deliverable

Submit a final report and/or presentation culminating your experience in front of Worldreader staff at the end of your internship. 



Desired Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate an interest in nonprofit fundraising and a passion for Worldreader’s mission. Additional qualifications include: 


 

  • Currently an undergraduate student enrolled at a four-year university based in the United States, preferably located in the San Francisco Bay area.
  • Commitment to full internship timeframe (September-December).
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote work environment.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Must have own computer and reliable internet connection.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented.
  • Excited to work with a reading organization that supports children globally.
