Incubation Intern - Sales and Marketing

Dates:  Start July or August 2024. 20 hours per week during academic year with full-time hours available during the summer months. Role is planned through December 2024, with the option for extension
 

Work Location:  Filene Research Institute – Fully Remote
Not open to international students.

Job Purpose

The Incubation Intern will work closely with the Incubation team, helping them to expand programs by focusing on increasing the number of credit unions that join the Lab as Lab Sponsors, building relationships, and finding new opportunities. The ideal candidate will have experience with finding and assessing sales leads, creating sales and account relationships, exploring new market opportunities, producing communications materials, and handling team administrative tasks. We are looking for a driven, independent person who is passionate about cooperative finance and who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Opportunity Cultivation
    • Proactively identify and research credit unions with a keen interest in innovation to build and qualify the Lab Sponsorships pipeline for the Lab at Filene.
    • Assist in outreach to prospective sponsors, supporting the scheduling of discussions and ensuring comprehensive tracking within Salesforce for effective follow-up and engagement.
    • Collaborate closely with the Incubation team to refine and implement top-tier relationship management practices for Lab Sponsors.
  • Market Differentiation and Go-To-Market Materials
    • Partner with the Incubation and Marketing teams to craft compelling go-to-market sales communication resources that resonate with the target audience.
    • Engage with the Incubation and Membership teams to pinpoint the defining characteristics and personas of ideal Lab Sponsor organizations, ensuring a tailored approach to market engagement.  
  • New Market Strategy
    • Collaborate with the Incubation team to investigate new market opportunities, aiming to expand Lab sponsorships across diverse sectors such as leagues, foundations, fintechs, and more. 
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Lead select team administrative duties to help maintain organization and project management (e.g. notetaking, agenda management, etc.).
    • Expand understanding of consumer and cooperative finance, practice the basics of research in financial services, and build portfolio-worthy projects.

Job Requirements

  • Working towards a relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and the desire to learn.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly summarize ideas and write strong copy.
  • Passion for purpose and precision, including high-level of organization and keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to take initiative and work independently, while also contributing to a dynamic team.
  • Ability to work effectively with Filene team, credit unions and consumer finance partners.
  • Intellectually curious about credit unions and their members. 
  • Enjoy working in a “think tank” environment where ideation, continually embracing change, being restless with the status quo and seeking reinvention is part of the culture. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using Salesforce platform or willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of financial services preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with data analytics preferred, but not required.
