Soprano Vocalist - U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters Chorus

The United States Navy Band announces an immediate vacancy for Soprano Vocalist in the Sea Chanters Chorus. Successful candidates for this vacancy must demonstrate commanding stage presence, superior versatility, and outstanding solo and choral technique, to include ensemble sensitivity and advanced sight- reading ability. The audition will take place over two days, Thursday, September 19, and Friday, September 20, 2024 in Washington, D.C. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, August 15, 2024.

Located in Washington, D.C., on the historic Washington Navy Yard, the U.S. Navy’s official chorus performs regularly for the President, Vice President, and numerous congressional, military, and foreign dignitaries. With unmatched versatility, they perform a variety of music including traditional choral music, sea chanteys, patriotic fare, opera, Broadway, and contemporary music. In addition to a yearly national tour and concerts in the Washington, D.C. area, the Sea Chanters are frequently featured at the White House, U.S. Capitol, and important national events.

Starting salary for a new member of the U.S. Navy Band is $76,018 - $83,470.

Those selected for positions in the U.S. Navy Band are advanced to the paygrade of E-6 (Musician 1st Class) following recruit training, under a contract for permanent assignment to the U.S. Navy Band, Washington, D.C.

All applicants must be aged 18 to 41 and otherwise qualified for service in the U.S. Navy. Please note that the Navy has strict requirements with regard to medical readiness and physical appearance.

Application Instructions
To register for this audition:
(1) Fill out the U.S. Navy Band Audition Application
(2) Candidates have TWO options for participating in the preliminary round of the audition:

Option 1: Attend an open-call, preliminary audition on September 19, 2024. An accompanist will be provided. Repertoire requirements can be found below. Candidates will be notified later in the day if they have been called back to participate in the semi-final round, held the following day. Applications to participate are due no later than August 15, 2024.

Option 2: Submit an audio recording, either with an accompanist or a backing track, for pre- screening by the audition panel. Repertoire requirements can be found below. Instructions for electronically submitting a recording will be sent after your application has been received. Audio recordings are due by August 15, 2024. Pre-screened candidates that are invited to the semi-final round of the audition will be notified by August 22, 2024 and will only attend the second day of the audition, September 20, 2024. Candidates not advanced via recording may still attend the live preliminary audition on September 19, 2024.

Following the submission of your application, you will receive email correspondence from a Navy Band auditions manager. This will include further audition details and instructions for submitting recordings AND piano scores for your chosen selections. DO NOT submit recordings or scores prior to receiving these instructions. Reply to all email correspondence in a timely manner in order to successfully complete your registration and confirm your attendance at the audition.
