Role Overview: The Managing Editor at Electric Potential is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Content Department. This role ensures that all content is accurate, clear, and aligns with our content framework and guidelines. The Managing Editor will manage a team of associate editors, content writers, and political research writers, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality standards, and report to the Editor-in-Chief. As a key leader within our organization, the Managing Editor will also contribute to content creation, implement and enforce editorial guidelines, and foster an environment of innovation. This position is ideal for those who have a strong commitment to social change, exceptional editorial skills, and a passion for fostering excellence and inclusivity in digital media.


Duration: 6 months, with the option to commit longer based on performance. This role has a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Content Department.
  • Edit and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, tone, and style.
  • Occasionally contribute to content creation, including suggesting social issue lesson plan directions, social media content, and other marketing materials.
  • Manage a team of associate editors, content writers, and political research writers.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and support to team members.
  • Manage content workflow, including assigning tasks, setting deadlines, and coordinating with writers, designers, and other team members.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance checks to maintain high standards of content excellence and consistency.
  • Implement and enforce editorial guidelines and standards.
  • Regularly communicate progress, challenges, and updates to the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure content aligns with organizational strategies and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in English, Writing, Journalism and/ or proven experience as a content editor, copy editor, copy writer or similar role.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an asynchronous remote environment.
  • Ability to attend monthly 1:1 meetings with the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Ability to attend weekly all leadership meetings.
  • Ability to lead weekly department or team meetings.
  • Ability to attend bi-weekly all hands meetings.


Compensation: This is an unpaid internship/volunteer role.
