Rate is set in accordance with the City College of San Francisco Faculty Salary Schedule for hourly assignments. Currently the rate upon entry is from $85.23 to $93.01 per hour depending upon placement.Temporary, Part-Time PoolEC §87482

 

Position Description:

 

The Theatre Arts Department offers a variety of classes that meet graduation and transfer requirements as well as courses designed to train students for careers in theatre arts. This position would teach classes in the areas of dramatic literature and performance skills.

The ideal candidate will share the college's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population and be knowledgeable about culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging diverse communities who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional classrooms.

 

Job Duties:

 

• This position would teach classes in the general theatre arts area selected from the following areas:

 

• acting (stage and camera)

• directing

• introduction to theatre

• dramatic literature (classical, modern, and comedy)

• vocal production

• improvisation

• production player

 

• Teach in-person day, evening, weekend, and/or online/hybrid classes. This position may require some in-person teaching.

• Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress including, but not limited to developing a syllabus, grading, record-keeping, student learning outcome assessments, and designing classroom activities.

• Participate in departmental and college functions such as staff meetings, theatrical events, committee work, curriculum development, course revisions, and course assessments.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

 

2. An earned Master’s degree or Master of Fine Arts degree in Drama/Theater Arts/ Performance from an accredited institution.

 

OR

 

An earned Bachelor’s degree or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama/Theater Arts/Performance from an accredited institution.

AND

An earned Master’s degree in Comparative Literature, English, Communication Studies, Speech, Literature or Humanities from an accredited institution.

 

OR the equivalent

Desirable Qualifications:

 

• Earned M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Drama or Theatre Arts from an accredited institution.

• Previous teaching experience in theatre arts at the college level.

• Documented professional experience in the theatre arts field relevant to the college curriculum.

• Demonstrated ability and commitment to maintain current knowledge in the field.

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with various sexual orientations, gender identities, and ability statuses (e.g, physical and/or learning).

• Evidence of contributing to a theatre department community or wider school community, for example, hosting clubs, professional field trips, and/or activities with other departments and theatres.

• Evidence of experience with technical aspects of theatrical productions.
