Fire Inspector

Are you an experienced Fire Inspector looking to work in a progressive and innovative environment? Catawba County Emergency Services is recruiting a Fire Inspector to enforce the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code through periodic fire inspections and plan review processes, determining the origin and cause of fires through jurisdiction, and fire and life safety education. 

 

SALARY INFORMATION:

  • Salary is dependent upon level of Fire Inspector Certification

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers the enforcement of the NC Fire Prevention Code through fire inspections and plan review
  • Performs fire code inspections of all public occupancies within the County's jurisdiction and contracted jurisdictions 
  • Responds to and determine the origin and cause of unknown or suspicious fires
  • Written reporting and data entry of fire inspection and investigation information
  • Conducts Fire and Life Safety Education
  • Responds to public questions and concerns
  • Responds to environmental emergencies, natural and man-made disasters, and HazMat incidents

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduation from high school, supplemented by special training in fire inspection/service work and fire prevention education, and three years of experience in fire prevention, investigation, or inspection

 

The following levels/certifications are required: 

  • ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800
  • NC Standard Level III Fire Inspector (To be hired must have a minimum of a Probationary Level II Fire Inspector with a commitment to obtain Standard Level II and III within a specified time frame)  
  • NC Certified Fire Investigator (If not possessed at time of hire, must have a commitment to obtain within a specified time frame)  
  • North Carolina Hazardous Materials Operations
  • North Carolina Firefighter I
  • Valid NC Driver's License with a safe driving record

 

Because of the nature of the position, the Fire Inspector is required to:

  • Live within Catawba County. 
  • Possess the flexibility to work a regular and on-call schedule during night hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possess integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment. 
  • Perform heavy work, lifting in excess of 200 pounds, with one assistant. 

 

In addition, the following levels/certifications are preferred: 

  • NC Rescue Technician
  • NC EMT-B
  • NC Hazardous Materials Technician
