Training and Communications Specialist

Are you ready to play a crucial role in shaping the future of financial management for the State of South Dakota? The Bureau of Finance and Management is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our implementation team as a Training and Communications Specialist. This unique opportunity, located in Pierre, South Dakota, puts you at the forefront of transformative change as we embark on Project BISON – an initiative to implement a new ERP financial solution. The two and a half year transition to this state-of-the-art ERP system allows the chosen candidate the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of financial processes. Project BISON is not just an ERP implementation; it’s a bold step to modernize and define the financial infrastructure of the State of South Dakota for decades to come. While this position is initially tied to Project BISON, it offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and potential for long-term employment within the Bureau of Finance and Management or other State of South Dakota departments.

As a key member of the Project BISON implementation team, your responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective communication throughout the entire project.
  • Developing rapport, collaborating, and communicating openly and effectively with Project BISON participants to create an environment of trust that facilitates the successful ERP system implementation.
  • Collaborating with the Organizational Change Management (OCM) team to design and deliver training programs tailored to various user groups.
  • Coordinating all aspects of training sessions, including reserving locations, scheduling sessions, and compiling participant lists.
  • Delivering training to system end users (in-person, virtual, and/or training videos)
  • Collecting feedback from training sessions.
  • Supporting and providing input on communications and training objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and success criteria.
  • Working jointly with the OCM team to develop communication strategies and materials to support Project BISON objectives.
  • Serving as a point of contact for internal communications between agencies involved in Project BISON.
  • Managing multiple email accounts, ensuring prompt responses and effective communication flow.
  • Updating and maintaining content on website, bison.sd.gov, to provide accurate project information.
  • Regularly updating and managing content on the SharePoint site.
  • Representing BFM and Project BISON in a manner that enhances the agency’s credibility, reputation, and value.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

An associate's or bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or related field; or relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Training and communications experience, preferably within the technology or government sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Adobe suite and some graphic design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with large-scale IT systems and ERP solutions is a plus.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
