Compensation: $60,000 – $65,000
Hybrid: can work remotely with some days in office
Sustainable Food Center (SFC) seeks a Development Manager to join a motivated and professional team for development work at a leading non-profit in the food space. THE POSITION:
The Development Manager is responsible for leading SFC’s yearly annual fund campaigns and events, individual donor management and stewardship.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
An energetic self-starter with at least three years of experience in a nonprofit fundraising environment managing events and campaigns along with donor stewardship, cultivation and solicitation. Some major gift and/or grant writing experience a plus. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising/Events and Campaigns (50%)
Leads and is accountable for fundraising campaigns to support and grow SFC’s mission
- Annual Holiday Appeal (Oct-Dec annually)
- Develops campaign budget - Sets revenue goals and manages required expenses to achieve targets
- Writes printed and email appeals
- Works in conjunction with Marketing and Communications Manager to execute print and email appeals
- Amplify Austin Campaign (Jan-March annually)
- Sets budgeted revenue and required expenses to achieve targets
- Writes printed and email appeals
- Works in conjunction with Marketing and Communications Manager (email and social content) to produce and execute campaign
- Leads recruitment of individual fundraisers to help raise dollars through peer-to-peer platform (including the SFC Board of Directors (BOD) and SFC staff)
- Annual Farm to Plate Event (all year long)
- Provides oversight and leads logistical execution of and fundraising for event with minimal input from the Chief Development Officer (CDO)
- Research, identify and secure sponsors, table and ticket buyers, chef and beverage partners
- Determines budgeted revenue and required expenses
- Leads and has line of authority of any contractors retained for the event and assures that work is within the scope of the budget
- Choses venue and negotiates contract
- Works with Development/Communications Committee/BOD to secure sponsorships and to inform committee on progress to goal
- Cultivate and steward relationships
Individual Donor (Annual Giving) Management (40%)
- Under the advisement of the CDO:
- Assist with the creation and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to generate revenue to meet/exceed budget goals through a diversified funding base
- Assist with research initiatives on prospective donors, and engage Development Committee in donor cultivation and stewardship
- Solicit gifts and participation in various campaigns
- Work with CDO and Development/Communications Committee on cultivation, stewardship and solicitation for:
- Individual Donors (all levels), such as:
- Sustaining donors
- Mid-level
- Major donors
- Individual Donors (all levels), such as:
- Work with CDO and Development/Communications Committee to plan stewardship and cultivation events such as:
- Intimate size donor dinners, etc.
- Individual meetings with donors and prospective donors
- Work with CDO to assist with major gift efforts
- Develop strategies for managing a small portfolio of individual donors in coordination with CDO and Chief Executive Officer to develop strategies that meet agency revenue goals, including:
General Responsibilities: (10%)
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development, planning sessions and board committee meetings
- Use Every Action client relationship manager (CRM) database to ensure relationships, contacts are documented
- Attend community events on behalf of SFC accept speaking engagements to share information about SFC within the community
- Attend workplace giving and special events as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Advanced computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and some familiarity with donor CRM platforms required
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail, including the ability to maintain accuracy of details in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to handle complex and confidential information
- Ability to learn new concepts and approaches
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
