Library/Archivist Services Specialist

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Library/Archivist Services Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the organization and management of high-quality archives, special collections, and digital collections. This role also involves developing and promoting library services to enhance the impact and accessibility of these archives and collections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize, catalog, and maintain physical and digital collections, including photographs, films, documents, and other materials related to scientific research.
  • Develop and implement archival policies and procedures to ensure the preservation and accessibility of collections.
  • Manage special collections and ensure their proper storage and conservation.
  • Digitize physical materials and manage digital archives to improve access and preservation.
  • Develop and promote library services, programs, and resources to support research and public engagement.
  • Assist researchers, scientists, and the public in accessing and utilizing library and archival resources.
  • Create and maintain metadata and finding aids to enhance the discoverability of collections.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external organizations to enhance and expand library services and collections.
  • Conduct outreach activities to promote the use and understanding of the library’s resources.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in library science, archival management, and digital preservation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in library and archival management, preferably within a research or academic setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of archival principles, practices, and standards.
  • Experience with digital archiving and the management of digital collections.
  • Proficiency in using library and archival management software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to preserving and enhancing access to historical and research materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with metadata standards and creating finding aids.
  • Familiarity with scientific research or environmental science collections.
  • Previous experience in outreach and promotional activities for library services.
  • Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues related to archives.
