Disability Rights Advocate (Part-Time)

Disability Rights DC (DRDC) at University Legal Services, https://www.uls-dc.org/protection-and-advocacy-program/disability-rights-dc/, is the federally-mandated Protection and Advocacy Program for people with disabilities in the District of Columbia. DRDC advocates for the right of people with disabilities to be free from abuse, neglect and discrimination and be fully integrated into their community.

 

DRDC is seeking to hire a 21-hour-a-week entry level advocate.  This advocate will represent children and adults with disabilities seeking quality community-based services and supports, prepare training materials and reports, and monitor and conduct trainings in institutions, schools and in the community to educate people with disabilities about their rights, the services available, and inclusion.   

 

Qualifications:

  • Required:  Graduate of college and ability to start the position as soon as possible
  • Required:  Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Required:  Demonstrated commitment to public interest work and/or disability rights
  • Preferred:  Experience working with people with disabilities

SALARY and BENEFITS

Competitive non-profit part-time salary beginning at $27,000, 21 hours a week, flexible schedule, and option to work one-day remotely. Includes benefits: medical and dental insurance and generous annual and sick leave.
