Overview

The Guggenheim is committed to supporting the aspirations of early career arts professionals. In support of our Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion plan, the paid Guggenheim Museum Internship Program creates paths that lead to a more inclusive and diverse institution and arts field. The program provides practical training experience to undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in the arts and museum fields. Interns are assigned to one department for the duration of the program based on their academic background and interests and will gain a broad understanding of how a particular department functions within the context of a major museum as well as specific knowledge and skills related to departmental responsibilities. Under the supervision of designated staff members, interns work independently on projects, attend group meetings, and participate in ongoing conversations and processes within their department.

Department Placements

For the Academic Year 2024–25, twelve internship positions are available in the following departments: Advancement (two positions: Individual Giving and Special Events), Culture and Inclusion, Curatorial (three positions: contemporary art, Abu Dhabi Project, and modernist art), Education (two positions: School, Youth, and Family Programs and Academic Engagement), Exhibition Design, Library and Archives, Social Media, and Publications.

For a full list of departments, see: guggenheim.org/internships-and-academic-programs/internship-departments. Please note that not all departments offer internships every cycle.

Internship Description

The Academic Year 2024–2025 Internship Program will be hybrid, meaning interns will be expected to work on-site a minimum of two days per week, Monday through Thursday. The program will begin on Monday, October 7, 2024, and end on Friday, March 21, 2025, with a winter break from December 16, 2024, to January 10, 2025. The Academic Year internship requires a commitment of 20 hours per week for the full 20 weeks, and participants are expected to be available on Fridays from 10 am–12 pm, for Museum Culture Seminars. Museum Culture Seminars are mandatory weekly professional development meetings that bring together interns from different departments to connect and learn from one another. Museum Culture Seminars will be held at the museum and include presentations by Guggenheim Museum staff and other arts professionals, as well as discussions of current issues and trends within the field. They may also include the opportunity for field trips to other institutions.

Applicants must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies to apply. Priority is given to rising juniors or seniors in undergraduate programs and to graduate students.
