General Intern

FAIR, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization of concerned individuals who believe that our immigration laws must be reformed to better serve the needs of current and future generations.

With a support base of nearly 50 private foundations and over three (3) million diverse members and supporters, FAIR is free of party loyalties and special interest connections.

For over four decades, FAIR has been at the forefront of the immigration reform movement, offering and advocating for solutions that mitigate the adverse effects of uncontrolled immigration on national security, jobs, education, health care, and our environment. Join us in this crucial mission.

Paid Internships up to $22 an hour are available in Research, Government Relations, Digital, Media Relations, and Development.  Responsibilities differ for each department, but FAIR interns generally work with their supervisor on a specific project, usually designed with the intern's input.  Interns provide support and content in research publications, legislative analysis, media outreach and relations, and membership/donor outreach and relations.  Since much of FAIR’s operation consists of providing analysis and public education on immigration policy and is subject to external circumstances, interns may also provide support in other areas as needs arise.

Interns will work in the FAIR office located near Union Station and adjacent to the U.S. Capitol.

Interns will learn about the complexities of immigration policy and the legislative and political processes surrounding it.  FAIR is one of the nation’s leading immigration reform organizations, and interns will also gain valuable insights into how a non-profit public policy advocacy organization operates on a day-to-day basis.  Since immigration touches on every aspect of society, interns with FAIR have the opportunity to develop public policy expertise on various topics.

The ideal candidate must be enrolled in a college, university, or law school and should be able to demonstrate excellent research and writing skills and have an interest in U.S. immigration history and current policy.   A strong interest in research and analysis, public policy, media relations, or event planning is required, depending on the particular intern position.  Interns are encouraged to actively participate by offering input on the scope and direction of their projects.

In order to be considered, applicants should send a cover letter describing their understanding of FAIR (www.FAIRUS.org), a writing sample, and a resume to bluej@fairus.org, subject, Intern.

FAIR provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
