Manager of Communications and Public Relations

TITLE: Manager of Communications and Public Relations

STATUS: Regular, Full-time, Exempt

LOCATION: New York, NY (Hybrid an option for the right candiidate)

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing, the Communications and PR Manager will be responsible for executing Communication and PR strategies through the management and development of plans in support of our marketing and fundraising efforts. As part of a small team, the manager will focus on creating content and managing outside relationships through all phases of the process.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation and Management:

-Lead and oversee the development of captivating communications content across multiple platforms, including social media,

newsletters, websites, letters, presentations, and advertisements.

- Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality content that effectively conveys

the Foundation’s messages and aligns with its brand identity.

- Collaborate with designers and other stakeholders to create visually appealing

and impactful communications materials.

 

Media Outreach and Engagement:

- Develop and execute comprehensive media outreach strategies to reach target

audiences through diverse media outlets.

- Foster and maintain relationships with key media contacts to generate positive

coverage and enhance the Foundation’s visibility.

- Craft and distribute compelling press releases and media statements to

effectively communicate the Foundation’s initiatives and achievements.

 

Digital Communications:

- Manage the Foundation’s digital communication channels, including social

media platforms, websites, and newsletters.

- Create engaging and informative content for social media posts, articles, blog

entries, and other digital platforms.

- Monitor and analyze digital engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of

communication efforts and make data-driven improvements.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to align communications

strategies with programmatic and development goals.

- Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and

effective communication practices throughout the organization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep interest and commitment to philanthropy and the work of the Foundation, with a demonstrated commitment to, and familiarity with, the First Responder community.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of work experience, with a preference for experience related to philanthropy.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing strategic communications and PR plans.
  • Familiarity with Adobe desktop publishing software (or similar) and website and email maintenance platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusted relationship and be an effective ambassador for the Foundation in a variety of settings.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, adapt easily to changing situations, and meet multiple deadlines and goals simultaneously.
  • Values accuracy, a commitment to excellence and a collaborative leadership style that delivers decisive results.
  • Holds the highest standard of ethics and integrity in all aspects of professional work.


 

TIME REQUIREMENT

This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40 hours per week plus occasional early and late hours for meetings onsite and offsite.
