Intern, Emergency Preparedness & Response

Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) is a trade association located in New York City representing nearly 160 hospitals and health systems in the metropolitan New York area and throughout the State, as well as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. GNYHA is a dynamic, constantly evolving center for health care advocacy and expertise, but our core mission—helping hospitals deliver the finest patient care in the most cost-effective way—never changes. GNYHA’s advocacy takes many forms, from representing our members’ interest at the Federal and State governments to working alongside them to improve quality and patient safety.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Emergency Preparedness & Response team, part of the Legal, Regulatory, and Professional Affairs (LRP) department of GNYHA, is seeking an intern for a paid opportunity this summer. The Emergency Preparedness team helps staff within GNYHA’s member hospitals and nursing facilities with preparing their organizations for emergencies and disasters, while ensuring compliance with accreditation institutions, as well as state and Federal laws and regulations. The intern will report to the Assistant Director who focuses on emergency preparedness education and training for continuing care and hospital facilities. They will support the Assistant Director in developing emergency preparedness and response policies for GNYHA, as well as participating in planning training and educational activities for member facilities, and in the responses to emergencies such as heat waves or excessive rainfall events that might arise during the internship.

This position is ideal for an emergency preparedness, healthcare administration, or public health student with an interest in helping facilities become more resilient to all types of hazards through a focus on emergency preparedness.  The role will provide an opportunity to create an emergency plan and policies for GNYHA, gain an understanding of how healthcare facilities meet regulatory preparedness requirements and exercise preparedness policies, and gain exposure to meetings and programming for GNYHA members.
