Network and Telecommunications Analyst I

Reston Community Center (RCC) seeks an individual with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently. This position provides network operations and telecommunications system support to RCC. Performs system backups, and services hardware and peripherals. Detects, diagnoses, and resolves server problems. Maintains telecommunications systems and networks for the agency and its staff.

Salary: The starting salary will not exceed the midpoint ($83,909.07) of the advertised compensation range. Promotional rules apply for current Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools employees.

Schedule: This position will be scheduled primarily to work 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday at Reston Community Center. Occasional evenings, overtime, holiday work or schedule changes may be required based on operational needs. 

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Some knowledge of data and voice communications protocol and industry standards such as internet, intranet, internet security, frame relay, and data network;
Some knowledge of communications network management and router configuration;
Some knowledge of hardware and software, cabling, power requirements, ancillary equipment, and the like related to network operations and telecommunications systems;
Understands the PC in a network environment;
Understands the network environment and its operation;
Ability to install system hardware and software;
Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and manage studies, special projects and assignments;
Ability to evaluate and make recommendations on different applications software packages;
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally; and in writing;
Ability to assist users in solving systems problems;
Ability to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to management and employees;
Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships. 

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of an associate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field; plus two years of network and/or telecommunications experience; or a bachelor's degree in such fields.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete the following to the satisfaction of the employer:
 

  • Criminal background investigation
  • Child Protective Services Registry check

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment and initiative.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • However, employee may be required to do some walking, bending, and carrying of items under 15 pounds in weight.
  • Work is generally sedentary.
  • Work requires the ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment.
  • All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

 
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include a practical exercise.
