Assistant Director - Drainage

Jefferson Parish is looking TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DRAINAGE DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR. 

Kind of Work:

Under general administrative direction of the Director of the Department of Drainage. Performs highly responsible administrative, supervisory and managerial work in assisting the Director with the overall planning, direction and control of all department operations and maintenance divisions, programs and activities. This position is responsible for assisting in the administrative and management control of all departmental operations and maintenance activities on a Parish-wide basis through subordinate division supervisors.  Manages, oversees and directs all departmental operations and maintenance work divisions and sections including pump station, channel and waterways (canals), major conduit and subsurface drainage system, weed control spraying, grass cutting, vactor and GIS operations.  Performs related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

Meets one of the following options:

I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; plus, current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) with the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS) and three (3) years of professional engineering experience.

OR

 

II. Current registration as a P.E. with LAPELS and four (4) years of professional engineering experience, including significant (approx. one year) supervision over staff.


Preferred: Experience in the design, construction, and/or project management of municipal utility systems (such as drainage collection or pump station systems) is preferred.

Note: Professional engineering experience indicates engineering work performed with a PE license.

Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.
