Chesterfield County Government is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to provide direct supervision to 20 Van Drivers who transport persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to and from their jobs daily. Supports the Transit Manager in the recruitment, hiring and training of Van Drivers. Responsible for scheduling Van Drivers hours and monitoring completion of required training. Coordinates with County Fleet Management department to schedule routine maintenance and repairs for 30 vehicles. Provides after hours on call support to transportation service. Serves as back up for route scheduling and dispatch functions. Perform other work as required.

Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; three years of experience in para-transit operations, including one year of supervisory experience (hiring, training, and providing supervision); or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in driving multi-passenger vans required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; experience with electronic dispatching and route management software strongly preferred. Ability to work in a deadline-oriented, flexible, and dynamic environment; capable of communicating in a professional business manner; have excellent customer service skills and ability to work as part of a team are required.

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
