Reservations and Sales Associate

Come join our Reservations Team and use your outstanding customer service and sales skills to contribute to one of the top science centers in the country, Durham’s beloved non-profit, the Museum of Life and Science. You can work amongst the 84 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibit space that includes homes for butterflies, bears, wolves, and lemurs. This full-time Reservations and Sales Associate position manages telephone and email inquiries regarding general Museum information, reservations, programming, summer camps, and registrations.  

 

Position Objective:  Support the Museum’s mission on the Reservations team by maintaining a positive work environment and delivering an exemplary level of service on all functions of the department, and being knowledgeable about Museum programs, events, exhibits, procedures, and products.

 

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with external audiences to build group reservations pipeline.
  • Be knowledgeable about all offerings on campus including group reservations, camps, classes, events and memberships in order to assist a multitude of requests.
  • Maintain practices that help team effectively manage the needs of internal customers of the museum including Guest Relations, Database, I&L, Events  and Membership.
  • Manage telephone and email inquiries regarding general information, reservations, programming, and registrations.
  • Assist in answering the Museum main line as well as all reservations lines.
  • Manage and act in all customer service and administrative duties associated with
  • group reservations including confirmation process, group check-in, invoicing, and deposits.
  • Assist guests with on-line sales and registrations.
  • Cross train on all Guest Relations areas including Admissions, Ranging and Parking to assist as needed.
  • Work on special projects as assigned including Camp Scholarships, Event check in, etc.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including one weekend day weekly, at least one full weekend a month, and occasional evenings.
  • Always demonstrate adherence to Museum safety procedures.
  • Engage with Museum visitors in a positive and helpful way to support an enjoyable and safe guest experience.
  • Prioritize the Museum’s values of inclusion and kindness in all interactions with staff, volunteers, and guests.
  • Additional duties as needed.

 

Requirements

Required:

  • Customer service experience (2+ years)
  • Sales experience (1+ years)
  • Ability to proactively address guest needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively
  • Must communicate effectively over email, phone and in person
  • Ability to work with diverse, multi-generational audience
  • Can prioritize competing tasks with attention to detail
  • Creative and resourceful
  • Must have a pleasant and engaging attitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

 

Desired:

  • Data management experience (1+ years)
  • Knowledge of Altru, UltraCamp and TicketLeap are a plus
  • Experience with multi-line phone system
  • Spanish language skills
