Special Project Fellow

MDIA seeks a Special Project Fellow on an intern / externship basis to support the Public Innovation Challenge program as well as a wide variety of strategic projects that align with MDIA’s core mission.

Our Organization

Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, Inc. (“MDIA”) works to strengthen the relationship between the institutions, including local government, and technology companies with innovative solutions that improve the quality of life for Miami-Dade county residents.  

MDIA de-risks capital investments as well as accelerates the discovery and commercialization of technologies through our Public Innovation Challenge, which connects private innovators to the public sector through strategic investments and a test-and-validate program designed to help companies successfully deliver market-ready solutions along with accompanying jobs in Miami-Dade County.

Founded as an outcome of a collaboration among Miami-Dade County and key technology leaders and established with seed commitments from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors, MDIA’s mission is to scale solutions for people most affected by critical public challenges, improve economic and social outcomes, and make the County a world class capital for high growth technology companies.  

 

Duration: Minimum of three (3) months, with flexibility.

Hours: 10-30 hours per week, with flexibility based on availability.

Employment Type: $1,000 monthly stipend.

Location: Remote with hybrid engagement in Miami, FL

Responsibilities:

  • Support the data collection and external reporting of outcomes, outputs, KPIs and insights from the test and validation process
  • Support the identification and selection process for Public Innovation Challenge topics that incorporate community stakeholders, including, but not limited to, local governments, anchor institutions, and local colleges and universities, relative to MDIA  strategic investment verticals.
  • Conduct research related to the Public Innovation Challenge including landscape analysis, market research for economically viable companies that match our challenge areas, potential partnership opportunities, and more
  • Prepare and organize relevant collateral, resources, and documents, and provide general communication support for both internal and external purposes
  • Support team members to develop and execute project plans and timelines

Qualifications:

  • Organization. Excellent research and organizational skills.
  • Education. Undergraduate or graduate degree in progress, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Technologically-savvy. Proficient with Google Suite, Asana, Slack, Canva, SquareSpace, advanced computer skills desired.  
  • Communication. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented. Unswerving attention to detail
  • Independent. Ability to work effectively in self-paced work environment
  • Can-do Attitude. Highly motivated, positive and helpful attitude
