Boys & Girls Aid in Portland, OR is looking to hire a full-time Youth Care Counselor. Are you caring and empathetic while able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries? This direct care position earns a competitive wage of $19.50 - $20.00/hour. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH CARE COUNSELOR

As a Youth Care Counselor, you have the rewarding job of providing direct care to justice involved youth in the Portland Metro/Clackamas Area in a detention alternatives program. You will work with the youth to create routines, build positive relationships, and develop a relational framework for after they leave our care. Acting as a mentor, you provide exceptional opportunities for skill building and reinforcing their toolbox of coping strategies. This work includes facilitating appointments and school engagement and modeling safe/healthy communication and problem solving. The relationships you create with youth are pivotal in your work.

Utilization of a trauma-informed care (TIC) model and strategies are key. This job is for you if: your empathy comes through in your interactions with each person that you work with; you always keep accurate records of daily activities and services provided in accordance with quality assurance and state licensing standards; and making a difference in the lives of youth gives you an incredible sense of purpose and that is why you love your direct care job!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A YOUTH CARE COUNSELOR

  • Bachelor's degree along with 1 year of experience in mental health, social services, or a related field OR  2+ years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
