Family Services Manager - Children's Minneapolis Hospital (part-time)

Job Summary

The Family Services Manager play a vital role in continuing our mission of providing a welcoming and comforting environment for families who are in midst of a healthcare crisis. Family Services Managers are needed to provide program services and to manage operations during the weekends, holidays and weekday shifts. Family Services Managers are critical by allowing RMHC-UM to provide caring and compassionate services 365 days a year.

Primary Responsibilities

Guest/Program Management and Family Programming Assistance - Work closely with the Program staff to maintain smooth operation of facilities including safety and security, inventory management and general maintenance. Maintain space upkeep, assuring community, family rooms and common spaces are inviting, comfortable and functional.

  • Apply guidelines to determining eligibility, communicates with hospital staff, family registration and management of family dynamics
  • Provide oversight of the cleaning to ensure it is maintained to defined standards of cleanliness and maintenance. Work with volunteers, facilities, and cleaning staff to ensure common space and guest room turnovers are efficient and complete
  • Frequently communicates and exchanges information both written and verbally with families, volunteers and hospital staff
  • Work closely with Manager and other team members to accurately record and track usage of the program by families and volunteer hours

Support Volunteers, Cooks for Kids (CFK) Program and Development Initiatives

  • With guidance from the Manager and/or Assistant Manager, inventory, organize, prepare and/or serve meals to families
  • Greet, tour, educate and provide task management to volunteers about program services to ensure they have a positive experience while providing services to RMHC
  • Follow up with CFK groups to thank them for participating and coordinate with them to schedule another date to serve
  • When time allows and specific tasks are given for outreach and development of potential partnership
  • Engage in conversations with donors and volunteers to further RMHC-UM’s mission

Expected Hours of Work

This is a part time occasional position averaging less than 20 hours per week. Hours of work are primarily weekends, holidays and occasionally weekday shifts.

Fridays: 4pm-10pm
Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays: 7:30am-3pm OR 2:30pm-10pm

Family Services Managers must be available and able to commit to working a minimum of three shifts a month, two holiday shifts a year and also able to respond to on call requests for coverage needs.

Work Environment

Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest operates programs that provide services to families who have children receiving treatment from a local hospital partner. Meals are available during shifts.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization and management of volunteers
  • Able to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a phone, copy machine and computer printer
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment where needs and priorities change quickly and frequently
  • Experience with or ability to learn software

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout the facility
  • Able to bend, lift, stretch and climb to clean family rooms and common areas
