Job Summary

As a part-time employee, performs administrative and/or research work relating to one or more functional areas in the administration of a municipal government to develop/reinforce working knowledge of municipal government operations for professional growth or to meet the internship requirements of a university at the graduate level.

Job Description

Overview

The Intern II is a more experienced part-time employee that assists in performing various administrative, clerical, or secretarial duties developing working knowledge of municipal government procedures for professional growth or to meet the internship requirements of a school or University.

Essential Functions

1 Develops rules and regulations, assesses needs, implements and improves new or existing procedures, and coordinates various activities to assist in the administration of a department or division.

2 Participates in finding solutions to existing problems and discusses proposals with administrative personnel in planning and executing administrative functions, special events and public relations activities to acquire skills in problem solving as part of a good internship program.

3 Conducts individual studies or projects in one or more city department or division to supplement knowledge acquired in a specialized area entailing diverse duties such as clerical duties, or those relating to inventory, bookkeeping, maintenance and marketing.

4 Performs and assists in a variety of functions such as special services including contracts management, emergency preparedness, damage control, architecture, engineering and construction; supports financial services such as budgeting, grants and trust management, accounting, purchasing, revenue forecasting, and monthly financial reporting to supplement knowledge gained through academic courses.

5 Performs various personnel functions such as payroll, insurance, worker's compensation, safety, hiring and promotion, training, retirement, termination, affirmative action, benefits training, taxes and medical reports to acquire supplementary knowledge in the area of personnel administration.

6 Writes speeches, answers correspondence, maintains files, and assists in scheduling and coordinating events.

7 Establishes working relationships conducive tom completion of internship assignments; analyzes information gathered regarding research problems and presents pertinent facts to those responsible for solving them so that informed decisions can more effectively be made.

8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
