Summer Internship - Design
Purpose of Position:
We are seeking a motivated college student for a paid summer internship working with our Cleveland based Team Wendy division. Working with emerging technologies, the successful applicant will directly contribute to the generation, development, and validation of new designs and innovations in the head borne protective equipment space. The student will work with and receive feedback from internal Industrial Designers and Project Engineers to build upon their current design and engineering foundation and will be challenged to identify, ideate, and implement opportunities for product improvements in next generation helmet systems.
Essential duties and/or Functions:
- Work with Engineering teams to develop design proposals, ranging from broad design themes for the entire product and modes of use all the way to component-level design.
- Generate and translate ideas from sketch concepts into well resolved 3D assemblies and physical prototypes for performance and market evaluation.
- Devise and conduct laboratory test procedures to validate designs.
- Share results with the team to drive decision making and design decisions.
- Collaborate with and receive feedback from the project team throughout the program.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar from an accredited university.
- High level of skill taking 2D sketches to 3D modeling in SolidWorks or similar CAD package.
- Excellent at creating and maintaining cross-functional working relationships.
- Exceptional visual and oral communication skills conveying your ideas to others.
- Proficiency in essential software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred/Desired Skills or Experiences:
- Strong hand sketching ability preferable.
- Embedded programming skills- e.g. Arduino electronics programming.
- SolidWorks surface modeling experience.
- Technical knowledge of prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes as it relates to consumer products.
- Applicants must supply a resume and portfolio of recent work examples, showcasing their design process with an emphasis on taking sketch concepts into reality.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Cleveland, OH is $18.00 to 20.00 per hour. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, type and years of experience within the industry, education, etc.
