Packaging Design Engineer

Our Packaging Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting Veritiv’s custom packaging development from concept to completion. This position will collaborate with design leaders and global cross-functional partners to provide unique, scalable packaging and design-driven solutions to our customers.

 

Job Responsibilities:

● Develop design driven solutions to solve for business opportunities.
● Using SolidWorks and ArtiosCAD software, design complete packaging solutions to meet client requirements for design aesthetic, manufacturability, and operational readiness.
● Review production ready art.
● Work with team members and project managers to prioritize projects and workload.
● Work with functional and cross-functional partners to help develop strategy.
● Provide design-related sales support.
● Work with external customer teams to ensure project success.
● Stay current with software updates, industry standards and technology developments.
● Present work to internal groups and customers.
● Design quality solutions on time and within budget.
● Meet with customers to help sell design capabilities and custom solutions.
● Interpret customer feedback and offer appropriate solutions.

 

Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications:

● Strong knowledge of packaging material design for manufacturing/tooling: Corrugated, Fiberboard/Rigid Box, Molded PulpPlastics (Films, thermoforms, molded), Foam (Molded/fabricated), Wood, Metal, Labels/Adhesives, and Printing (Litho/Offset, Flexo, Digital).
● Good understanding of packaging qualification standards (ISTA, TAPPI, ASTM), including calculation of cushion curves, compression targets, and safety factors.
● Understanding of design principles, retail & e-commence design, packaging design, retail display and fixture design, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), LCA (Life Cycle Analysis), DOE (Design of Experiment), and FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
● Understanding of Industrial design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain in a globally sourced environment (Asia, Europe, N. America, Latin America).
● Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
● Strong to Advanced level software program experience with SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD, TOPS, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Pro) and Microsoft Office. KeyShot is a plus.

● 3-5 years of related job experience.

 

Education:

● High School Diploma/GED Preferred
