OVERVIEW
 
Are you a current college student in your junior year and are seeking a career in engineering or environmental sciences? Valley Water’s mission is to provide Silicon Valley with safe, clean water for a healthy life, environment, and economy. We manage an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection, and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 2 million residents.
 
The Groundwater Management Unit supports Valley Water’s mission to protect and augment local groundwater resources by providing accurate and timely information on current and future groundwater supply conditions, implementing sustainable groundwater management programs, complying with state groundwater sustainability requirements, and assessing potential groundwater impacts from proposed projects and policies.
 
INTERNSHIP LOCATION STATUS:  
This position is 100% onsite. The primary physical work location is located in San Jose, California.
 
Effective Monday, January 1, 2024, Valley Water will no longer require proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment for regular employees, temporary staff, student interns, retiree annuitants, and/or contractors.

WE LOOK FOR INTERNS WHO:

  • Students pursuing a major in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a similar field.
  • Students who are preferably in their junior/senior year.
  • Have taken courses in groundwater or water resources.
  • Enjoy being in the field (sunshine, fresh air, gentle breezes, summer heat) as well as the office.
  • Have a strong interest in water resources and sustainable groundwater management projects.
  • Are familiar with GIS.
     

AS AN INTERN YOU WILL:

  • Support the team with scheduling and conducting domestic well sampling and/or other groundwater field studies.
  • Assist with groundwater data validation and analysis projects, including statistical and GIS-based analyses. 
  • Assist with various analyses related to the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). 

 

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for this opportunity, you must:

  • Be a current college student or recent graduate (up to 6 months post grad).
  • Be able to commit at least 15-20 hours a week.
  • Live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.     
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and have some driving experience.
