Bike MS Development Intern

The National MS Society is offering an exciting internship within the Bike MS Development Team! This paid internship can provide school credit and offers valuable experience in the nonprofit, engagement, fundraising, relationship management, and event planning industries. The Bike MS intern will help us to grow our overall participation and fundraising, assist with in-kind procurement, helping us to deepen the impact overall and achieve our goal of raising $2,700,000. 

This is a hybrid paid internship available for Summer 2024. 

What You Will Do: Day to Day: Intern will gain effective relationship-building skills and experience in event management and planning. The following focus areas are not all inclusive: 

• Regularly communicating with Bike MS participants and volunteers via email and phone campaigns 25% 

• Meet with Bike MS staff 25% 

• Assist with and track in-kind solicitations 25% 

• Attend staff meetings when necessary 10% 

• Assisting in direct mail and general office tasks- invites, notifications, prizes, save the dates, printing, inventory, etc. 15% 

Specific Responsibilities: Intern(s) will assist with the execution of all Bike MS functions. These tasks will include conducting in-kind solicitation asks, communicating with Bike MS participants via phone and email, helping to plan aspects of the Bike MS event weekend. 

Learning Objectives: After completing a Bike MS internship, you should understand basic event planning, how to solicit and effectively utilize in-kind donations, and be comfortable with relationship management. 

What You Will Bring:

 • Currently pursuing a degree as a Junior or Senior in College or any year in graduate school Open to all majors with a preference for the following: Business studies, Communications, entrepreneurship, Event Management, Hospitality, Leadership Management, Non-Profit Management, Organizational Leadership, Public Relations, Project Management, Recreation Services, Sociology, Social Work or Sports Leadership/Management 

• Ability to work 12 weeks, 15 hours/week. 

• Eagerness to learn in a hybrid environment. 

• Ability to represent the National MS Society in a professional manner.

• Detail oriented and strong organizational skills 

• Great written and verbal communication skills 

• Must be personable, outgoing, and self-motivated.

• Ability to work part of a team and independently. 

• Capacity to lead a group of volunteers to complete tasks/projects. 

• Adaptable, flexible, and open to projects with a desire to learn. 

• Ability to step up as a leader when the opportunity presents itself. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for e-mail, document, and spreadsheet creation/management – specific training will be provided.
