Description of Position:

 

Diablo Valley College is seeking to add to its pool of adjunct faculty who can teach printmaking and/or 2D and/or ceramics in the art department. We are hiring for an adjunct pool for Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025 semesters, with possible courses in subsequent semesters. These courses are often taught stacked in tandem.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

• The applicant will have prior introductory level teaching experience.

• They will have a knowledge of the tools and equipment utilized in an educational art studio space.

• Experience in teaching courses similar to those listed in the job description.

• Varied knowledge in their field as evidenced by a resume and portfolio which reflects dedication to an artistic practice via exhibitions and technical experience.

• Professional experience working with and teaching a diverse student population in a multi-cultural college environment.

• A history of maintaining good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and community contacts.

• Proven ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment.

 

Applicants will be familiar with one (or more) of the disciplines below:

 

Printmaking:

 

• The applicant has experience teaching a printmaking course and introductory design and/or drawing course at the college level.

• Examples of courses that might be taught in this position include: ART-109 Monotype & Mixed Media, ART-110 Introduction to Printmaking, ART-111 & 112 Etching I & II, ART-114 Woodblock, and ART-116 Screen Print

 

2D:

 

• The applicant has experience teaching an introductory design course and/or drawing course and/or painting course at the college level.

• The applicant will have experience teaching traditional watercolor techniques at the college level OR present work that demonstrates proficiency in traditional watercolor techniques.

• Examples of courses that might be taught in this position include: ART-101 Introduction to Two-Dimensional Design, ART-105 Introduction to Drawing , ART-106 Drawing in Color, ART-120/121 Watercolor I & II, ART-126/127 Painting I & II

 

Ceramics:

 

• The applicant has experience teaching an introductory ceramics course at the college level.

• The applicant has prior experience and knowledge of wheel and hand-built ceramics techniques.

• Examples of courses that might be taught in this position include: ART-152/153 Wheel-Thrown Pottery I & II, ART-154 Hand-Built Ceramics I, ART-155 Ceramic Sculpture I, ART-156 Figurative Ceramics I

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;

2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;

3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;

4. meeting with students outside of class;

5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;

7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;

8. maintaining accurate academic records;

9. performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

 

Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

 

Master’s in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History

OR

Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in Humanities

OR the equivalent

 

(NOTE: ‘Master’s in Fine Arts’ as used here refers to any Master’s degree in the subject matter of Fine Arts, which is defined to include Visual Studio Arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the ‘Master of Fine Arts’ (MFA) degree when the degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.
